Blue Light From Phones Could Cause Blindness

Blue Light From Phones Could Cause Blindness

Blue light from screens, like your smartphones, could eventually lead to blindness, a new study finds. University of Toledo researchers found blue light from digital devices and the sun “transforms vital molecules in the eye’s retina into cell killers.”

According to the study, photoreceptor cells in the retina need molecules called retinal to sense light and signal the brain. Blue light exposure causes retinal to kill photoreceptor cells.

To protect your eyes, scientist suggest you wear sunglasses that can filter both UV and blue light outside and try not to spend too much time looking at your cell phone or tablet in the dark.
