How Divorce Affects Retirement Security
Getting a divorce may greatly reduce your retirement security, finds a study from The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College.
Researchers found divorced households saw a seven percentage point increase on the National Retirement Risk Index than those who never went through a divorce. According to the study brief, on the National Retirement Risk Index, seven percentage points is substantial; for instance the Great Recession increased the NRRI by nine percentage points.
Researchers say the good thing is divorce rates appear to be declining.
