Drinking Alcohol While Breastfeeding May Lower Cognition in Kids

A new study finds alcohol in breastmilk may cause reductions in cognitive abilities of kids at 6-7 years of age.

The study published in Pediatrics found the relationship between alcohol consumption, breastfeeding and cognitive reductions was small, but could be significant if mothers consume alcohol on a regular basis or binge drink.

Researchers also found smoking while lactating didn’t affect children’s cognitive abilities.
