Boy Scouts Program to Drop 'Boy' From Name
The Boy Scouts program is taking the word “boy” out of its name as the group moves to be more inclusive. On Wednesday, Boy Scouts of America, the parent organization of the program, announced starting in February 2019 the name of its older youth program will be “Scouts BSA,” but Boy Scouts of America and Cub Scouts will keep their names.
Boy Scouts of America says since welcoming girls to Scouting, more than 3,000 girls have already pre-enrolled in the program ahead of the full launch.
Chief Scout Executive, Michael Surbaugh, said, “it is important that all youth can see themselves in Scouting in every way possible.”
