You Can Live Longer By Retiring Early

Contrary to what some evidence and studies have said, retiring early may actually help you live longer, finds a study published in the journal Health Economics.

CNBC reports male Dutch civil servants over 54 years old who retired early were 42 percent less likely to die over the following five years compared to those who continued working. So, why?

According to CNBC, the study says there are two reasons: 1) When you’re retired you have more time to spend on your health, including sleeping more, exercising, or going to see your doctor as soon as something is wrong. 2) Work can be stressful and when you’re retired you likely don’t experience that kind of stress. People in the study were significantly less likely to die from cardiovascular diseases.
