At least nine people are dead and 16 others are injured after a van plowed into pedestrians on a busy Toronto sidewalk. Police said a suspect has been arrested.

Police said the van was driving on Yonge street when it struck pedestrians between Finch and Sheppard Avenues, which is in the north side of the city.

Toronto Police said they anticipate a long investigation, with investigators on scene for several days with road closures.
