Donald Trump Pardons Scooter Libby, a Former Top Aide to Cheney

President Donald Trump has pardoned Scooter Libby, a former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney.

Libby was convicted in 2007 of obstruction of justice and making false statements into the leaking of CIA officer Valerie Plame’s identity. President George W. Bush commuted Libby’s sentence shortly after his conviction, but he still paid a $250,000 fine, performed 400 hours of community service, and served two years of probation.

Trump issued a full pardon, he said “I don’t know Mr. Libby, but for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life.”
