Suspected Austin Bomber Blows Himself up as SWAT Team Closes in

The suspected Austin bomber blew himself up by detonating a bomb as a SWAT team closed in on him.

The suspect, Mark Anthony Conditt, was named as the bomber just hours before. Court records indicate he was 23 years old, Austin Police said he was 24. KXAN reports police said the suspect died and had ‘significant injuries’ from the bomb.

The Austin American-Statesman reports Conditt was identified largely based on security video acquired from the FedEx store where he went to ship out an explosive device, which detonated Tuesday. Police tracked his cell phone to a hotel. Conditt fled the hotel in his car and drove his car into a ditch...that’s when police approached his vehicle and he detonated a bomb in his car.

No word yet on a motive, but police do believe he was connected to all the bombings in Austin since early March.
