Ways to Earn Extra Cash in Retirement

Ways to Earn Extra Cash in Retirement

If you’re retired and need some extra cash here are some ideas from U.S. News & World Report contributor Brian O’Connell.

Join the gig economy workforce. You’ll be your own boss and can set your own hours. There’s dog sitting on Rover, driving a car with Lyft or Uber...or you could rent out a room on Airbnb.

Become a consultant. Use the experience you gained during your working years to become a independent consultant. According to the U.S. News & World Report article, the pay is often so good, even a part-time consulting gig could bring in thousands of dollars per year.

Take a part-time gig that aligns with your interests. If you like wine, become a wine steward. If you enjoy painting, think about teaching painting classes. If you like working in the evenings, find a restaurant job.

Get a job where older workers are in demand. Retirees tend to have more experience and knowledge in the industries they spent years in during their working lives. So, while it may not have crossed your mind, there are jobs where the 50-plus are in demand, including professional interpreters, virtual assistants and online tutors.

Be a professional blogger. With blogging, you’ll get to work from home and have flexible hours. All you need is writing skills, a computer and access to the Internet.

Be a delivery driver. While we already mentioned Lyft and Uber, don’t forget you can also become a delivery driver with local businesses, like the florist or the pizza shop.
