Pardoned Former Sheriff Joe Arpaio Running for Senate

Former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio is running for the Arizona Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Jeff Flake. The 85-year-old Republican announced his run on Twitter, saying the sole reason for his decision is to support the agenda and policies of President Donald Trump.

Trump pardoned Arpaio after he was convicted of criminal contempt when he ignored a federal order in a racial profiling case. Arpaio was an early supporter of Trump during his presidential run.

Arpaio did not win in his re-election bid for sheriff in 2016.
