30 Illegal Immigrants Enter US Through New Underground Tunnel

U.S. Border Patrol agents detained 30 illegal immigrants after they emerged from a hidden, underground tunnel, near the Otay Mesa port of entry. The cross-border tunnel was discovered by agents in the San Diego Sector. Agents caught seven Mexican nationals and 23 Chinese nationals.

The Los Angeles Times reports the agents were in the the area of the border about 1:15 a.m. when they saw a large group of people on the street and started running when agents approached them. Some of the people started heading for the tunnel and that’s how it was discovered.

The Border Patrol says it appears the tunnel was an extension of an incomplete tunnel previously seized by Mexican authorities.
