Mosul Freed From ISIS, but in Ruins
The city of Mosul has been retaken from ISIS, according to Iraq's Prime Minister.
ISIS took control of the Northwestern Iraqi city in 2014. The victory marked the end of a bloody campaign led by U.S.-backed Iraqi forces to retake Mosul, which launched in October. Thousands of people were killed and hundreds of thousands were displaced.
Mosul is now in ruins. The victory is a turning point in the fight against ISIS, but doesn’t mean the end of ISIS’ rule.
