Syria Signs Paris Climate Deal Leaving US As Only Country Opposed to Agreement
Syria says it will sign the Paris climate deal, leaving the U.S. as the only country in the world to reject the agreement.
Syria and Nicaragua were the only nations opposed to the deal when it was signed in 2015. Nicaragua joined in October. President Trump said on June 1 that the U.S. would be withdrawing from the agreement.
Syria made the announcement during climate change talks in Bonn, Germany.
The Paris Agreement brings all nations together in the fight against climate change; parties agree to reduce emissions that contribute to the warming of the planet.
