Donald Trump Includes Steve Bannon On The National Security Council
President Donald Trump has chosen to include chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, on the National Security Council...and now there's been a huge backlash.
Bannon is the former head of the Breitbart News website, a right-wing leaning website.
The New York Times reports Trump signed an executive order Saturday giving Bannon a seat on the "principals committee" of the NSC, while downgrading the Joint Chief of Staffs chairman and the national intelligence director roles.
Former acting CIA chief Michael Morell told "CBS This Morning" the move was "unprecedented."
Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice called Trump's decision "stone cold crazy" on Twitter. Republican Senator John McCain told CBS News the move was "a radical departure from any National Security Council in history."
USA Today reports White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer defended the decision and said Bannon was included on the NSC for "transparency."
