Superstar musician Prince has died today at the age of 57, TMZ reports. News had broken earlier that a death had occurred at the Paisley Park compound Prince calls home, but authorities did not reveal the identity of the death until next of kin was notified.
Prince, whose full name is Prince Rogers Nelson, had a medical emergency last week that forced his private jet to make an emergency landing. He reportedly was battling the flu. The artist had also canceled two shows prior due to health concerns.
Prince’s breakthrough was in 1982 with his album “1999.” Along with a slew of hits, he won 7 Grammys, an academy award for best original song score for Purple Rain, performed at the Super Bowl, and sold more than 100 million records. He was inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame in 2004.
