Ben & Jerry's Founders Arrested During Protest

Protests at the US capitol by a group called Democracy Awakening have been occurring since April eleventh. Police report that more than 1,200 demonstrators have been arrested. Among those arrested were the co-founders of the ice cream brand Ben & Jerry’s, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield.

According to their website, Democracy Awakening aims to awaken a democracy that is accessible to all and is not beholden to big money interests. The group is also protesting against voting laws they consider discriminatory.

A similar group called Democracy Spring has also been holding mass demonstrations with hundreds of civil disobedience arrests this week, including actress Rosario Dawson. Ben and Jerry were among 300 charged with crowding and obstructing. They were processed on the scene and released.
