One day after being indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly conspiring to rig the price of oil and natural gas leases in Oklahoma, former Chesapeake Energy CEO Aubrey McClendon died in a car crash.
The wreck, which police have reported as a single vehicle crash, occurred when McClendon drove straight into a wall of an overpass. According to the police captain there was plenty of time to correct and get back onto the road but it did not occur.
The Department of Justice had accused McClendon of orchestrating a conspiracy between two large oil and gas companies over the span of five years. He claimed the charges were quote “wrong and unprecedented.”
