John Kerry Declares ISIS Committing Genocide

In response to mounting pressure from Congress and numerous Christian groups, Secretary of State John Kerry and the State Department have formally designated the atrocities committed by ISIS against numerous religions as genocide. It is allegedly the second time the branch has used the term when describing the terrorist organization.

This is also in conjunction with the non-binding and unanimous resolution by the House condemning ISIS crimes as genocide.

Referring to the group as Daesh, Kerry described the genocidal acts being committed against Shiite Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis. The groups are slaughtered, enslaved, raped, forced to convert, and flee the communities they have formed for generations all in the name of ISIS.

Although this recognition is welcomed, many are wondering if the designation requires the US to take even more action against the extremist group and the ethnic cleansing.
