Putin Orders Forces To Withdraw From Syria

Russian state news is reporting that according to President Putin, Russia will begin withdrawing troops from Syria starting tomorrow. Citing hopes to encourage talks to end the five year long civil war, Putin decided to pull out their troops and stated that he thinks quote “the tasks set to the defense ministry are generally fulfilled.” Talks like these are allegedly far from happening.

In Syria insurgent groups have been fighting against Syrian President Assad’s government. The coalition of the US, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia believe Assad has used force against his own people and that he should step aside so new elections can be held. Russia and Iran however have lent support to President Assad to help him stay in power.

Russia exiting only complicates an already complex civil war which could rage on and only incite more violence in the middle east.
