PBS Anchor, Gwen Ifill, Dies After Battle With Cancer
Gwen Ifill, the longtime host of PBS NewsHour dies after her battle with cancer. Ifill was 61.
Politico reports WETA CEO and president Sharon Percy Rockefeller wrote in an email to staff, "I am very sad to tell you that our dear friend and beloved colleague Gwen Ifill passed away today in hospice care in Washington."
Sara Just, PBS NewsHour executive producer, said in a statement that reads in part, "She was a journalist’s journalist and set an example for all around her...She was stopped on the street routinely by people who just wanted to give her a hug and considered her a friend after years of seeing her on TV. We will forever miss her terribly.”
PBS said in a press release Ifill was surrounded by family and friends when she died.
