Attorney Michael Hausfeld, principal at Hausfeld LLP and a commentator for the Legal Broadcast Network, is no stranger to news coverage of his exploits in the courtroom. The latest article about him is a lengthy story in Playboy magazine. “The Toughest Lawyer in America Is on Your Side,” by Neal Gabler, recounts the early years of Hausfeld’s highly successful career and how he got to where he is today. As the Washingtonian magazine observed, “Hausfeld consistently brings in the biggest judgments in the history of law. He has won judgments worth hundreds of millions of dollars against oil companies like Exxon and Texaco, has attacked drug manufacturers and bullet makers, and is at the center of suits against Ford and Bridgestone Tires in connection with tread-separation accidents. The son of Holocaust survivors, Hausfeld may now be best known for winning $7 billion in compensation for Jews whose possessions were taken by Germans and stored in Swiss banks.”
Gabler’s story tells of Hausfeld’s first job as a lawyer with Arent, Fox, Kintner, Plotkin & Kahn in Washington, D.C. It was not a good fit for Hausfeld or the firm. Things changed for Hausfeld when he connected with attorney Jerry Cohen and his law firm. With Jerry Cohen, Hausfeld found a partner and a practice situation that would start him down the path to success. Hausfeld became a partner in the firm, leaving in 2008 to start his own firm.
Hausfeld has become a power in the field of class actions, most recently the landmark case of O’Bannon v. NCAA. ESPN’s article about the case characterizes Hausfeld as a game changer. LBN looks forward to bringing its viewers more reports by Hausfeld on important and interesting lawsuits and legal topics.
